Role of care giver

In management of patients with chronic heart disease, role of care giver can not be over emphasized. Long standing heart diseases like Heart failure, Hypertension, heart attack, disease of heart valves etc need a repeated visit to hospitals/clinics, sometimes hospitalization, longterm medications. These conditions put significant emotional and psychological impact over the patients. Financial burden i will keep in the last. Many a times patients feel too depressed and lonely to discontinue their treatment. This is why role of care giver is of paramount importance. A care giver can be anyone who supports you during your illness, who keeps you optimistic about your recovery, who reminds you about your medicines, who helps you in your exercise and daily routine, who accompanies you to the hospital or doctors clinic. He/she can be your close family member, relative, friend, even neighbour.

I have seen grand children taking excellent care of their grand parents, friends reaching out for their friends in need, even office colleagues giving tremendous support to their ailing colleague.

In management of patients with heart disease the role of care giver is as important as the role of doctor. Every patient and family has to recognise the role and importance of caregiver because without them these patients can not be given best outcome.

So now after knowing the role of our care giver we should give more respect and attention to them which they truly deserve :)
