Emergency symptoms in patients with heart failure/weak heart

Breathlessness on routine activity

Breathless while at rest

Breathing difficulty on lying down/ while trying to sleep

Coughing on lying down

Chest discomfort (angina like pain in chest, left shoulder, left arm, upper back, lower jaw)

Rapid weight gain - like more than 2-3 kg weight gain in one week

Swelling over feet and legs (new or worsening)

Loss of consciousness/ lightheadedness/palpitations

Blood pressure fluctuation

Decreased urine output

So now when you know what are the emergency symptoms in a patient of heart failure (weak heart), I expect you to recognise these warning signs early and contact your doctor as soon as possible. If you contact your doctor early, a good number of these patients can be easily managed at home. But if you ignore these symptoms and patient’s condition worsens then he/she may even require hospitalization
